IndiGo Airlines Faces One of Its Largest Operational Disruptions in Recent Years
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is currently dealing with a major operational crisis that has affected thousands of passengers across the country. Over the last several days, the airline has cancelled more than 1,000 flights nationwide, mainly due to crew shortages, scheduling mismanagement, and complications arising from the implementation of new Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) rules for pilots and cabin crew.
According to airline officials, the introduction of stricter rest-hour regulations—although meant to enhance flight safety—was not planned properly, resulting in a massive imbalance in crew availability. Airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad have witnessed some of the worst disruptions, with passengers reporting waiting times of 6 to 14 hours.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has now intervened and granted temporary relaxation in FDTL rules to help IndiGo stabilize its operations. The airline has assured the government and passengers that it aims to return to full normal operations by February 10, 2026.
Travellers are strongly advised to check their flight status regularly, keep additional buffer time for travel, and stay updated through the IndiGo website or mobile app.
In-Depth Passenger Advisory
🛫 Important Advisory for All IndiGo Passengers Amid Ongoing Disruptions
IndiGo Airlines continues to face widespread flight delays and cancellations due to a combination of crew shortages, increased passenger demand, and the airline’s challenges in adapting to newly introduced crew rest regulations.
Many passengers across India have reported long queues, rescheduling issues, lack of communication, and significant inconvenience at major airports. The unexpected disruption has also impacted connecting flights and international transfers, leaving hundreds stranded.
Key reasons behind the disruption include:
• Sudden implementation of new pilot duty-rest rules
• Improper management of crew schedules
• High seasonal traffic in winter months
• Reduced aircraft rotation due to operational pressure
The Indian aviation regulator DGCA has stepped in to control the situation and offered temporary relief measures. IndiGo has issued a public statement acknowledging the problem and promising gradual improvement over the next few weeks.
💡 If you are flying soon:
✓ Check your flight status repeatedly
✓ Arrive early at the airport
✓ Keep backup plans for connecting journeys
✓ Prefer flexible or refundable bookings
IndiGo has apologized for the inconvenience and assured that a long-term corrective plan is under implementation.
